Black & White Sgraffito Flowers Ceramic Bowl
Black & White Sgraffito Flowers Ceramic Bowl
This wheel-thrown pottery bowl is black and white. Using the sgraffito technique, the inside of the bowl is carved flowers and polka dogs (oh my favorite). The outside is decorated using the mishima technique with flowers and hearts and with the quote, "May the petals teach me the art of letting go" (by Xan Oku).
Great ceramic bowl for parties, meals/desserts, or simply for decoration.
Size: 4" tall / 3.3" opening / 5" wide with handle
Weight: 13.1 oz
All items are completely handmade. No two items will ever be alike.
Sgraffito is a technique where potters can put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch”.
Mishima is a technique where you cover the entire greenware piece (not yet been fired) with wax resist. You then carve out your design and cover with underglaze, so that the color is filled into the grooves. Once it's been bisque fired (the first of 2 firings), I add the color, cover with clear glaze and then fire again.
