"Science. It's like magic but REAL." It's hard to believe that we have to remind people of that, but... The handle with a lovely thumb rest reads "Science doesn't care what you believe!" Using the sgraffito method, carved and decorated around the mug are lots of science icons.
This oversized wheel-thrown mug is black and white on the outside, and a cool galaxy-inspired blue-green-brown combination (one of my favorites). There is a light bulb painted on the bottom of this piece of pottery.

Sgraffito is a technique where potters can put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch”.
