Starry Starry Chip & Dip Bowl

Two separate pieces that go together perfectly as if they were one. Wheel thrown with beautiful Earthen Red clay that fires a deep brown. Using the sgraffito method, I painted and carved a starry, starry night inspired theme into the two pieces. They work well sitting separately or with the bowl inside the plate.

Sgraffito is a technique where potters can put a layer of glaze or slip on a piece of pottery, let it dry, then use a pottery carving tool to scratch at it to show the base layer of color. Sgraffito derives from an Italian word meaning “to scratch”.
